- Installing the Book's CD
- ========================
-
- The CD of this book contains over 50 Megabytes!
- However, don't worry! You are not required to copy
- 50 Megabytes into your hard drive.
-
- The book's CD was designed so that you do NOT have to copy
- many files from the book's CD to your hard drive.
-
- In the following steps, you'll be instructed to copy less
- than 4 Megabytes into your hard drive.
-
- So here is what you have to do to install the book's CD
- into your hard drive:
-
- [] Install Visual Basic 4 (if you have not done so yet).
- You need to install Visual Basic 4, because the EXE files
- of the book's CD require that the runtime DLL files of
- Visual Basic 4 reside inside your \Windows\System directory.
- For example, for the 32-bit programs, the file VB40032.DLL
- must reside inside your \Windows\System directory.
-
- [] If you are using a 32-bit Windows operating system
- (such as, Windows 95) copy all the files from the
- \OCXProg\Runtime\Run32 directory of the book's CD into
- the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on your hard drive.
-
- [] If you are using a 16-bit Windows operating system
- (such as, Windows 3.1) copy all the files
- from the \OCXProg\Runtime\Run16 directory of
- the book's CD into the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on your
- hard drive.
-
- Note: Some of the files that reside inside the \Runtime
- directory may already exist in your \Windows\System directory.
-
- [] Copy all the files from the \OCXProg\Lic
- directory of the book's CD into the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- directory on your hard drive.
- The \OCXProg\Lic directory contains *.LIC files which
- enable you to use the TegoSoft OCX files during design
- time. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISTRIBUTE THE *.LIC FILES.
-
-
- That's it! You completed installing the book's CD.
-
- Notes:
- ======
- 1. During the course of this book, you'll be instructed to
- implement the book's programs. For example, in chapter 2
- you'll be instructed to implement the Switch program. So
- prior to implementing the program, create the
- C:\OCXProg\Programs\Ch02 directory on your hard drive.
-
- 2. The book's CD contains the source code of the book's
- programs. Always try to implement the programs by yourself
- as instructed by the book. But if you run into difficulties,
- refer to the source code on the book's CD.
-
- 3. The CD-ROM contains two bonus chapters in electronic form,
- which document programs on the CD-ROM which were not discussed
- in the book:
-
- Run \chapt20\chapt20.exe (Chapter 20) to read about Animation,
- Top Most, and Special Button OLE controls.
-
- Run \appendb\appendb.exe (Appendix B) to learn how to create
- mask pictures using paint.
-
- 4. All the files that are supplied on the book's CD are
- copyright material. For example, BMP files, WAV files, OCX
- files, and other files. You should treat these files like
- you treat any other copyright material. Also, make sure to
- read the LICENSE.TXT file that resides inside the
- \OCXProg\LICENSE directory of the book's CD.
